This course will equip you with the necessary skills to carry out effective, inclusive, and empathetic risk assessments in client-focused environments.

Incorporating strength-based, trauma-informed and culturally competent practices, the course is tailored to the complexity and diversity of frontline work in support and accommodation settings.

This course will support you to:

  • Grasp the legal framework surrounding risk management; ensuring your assessments are compliant with critical legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, The Care Act, The Mental Capacity Act, and The Equality Act.
  • Understand the fundamental role of risk assessment in creating a secure work environment, while also appreciating the nuances of individual cases through a strength-based lens.
  • Acknowledge your responsibilities concerning confidentiality and partnership working, balancing information sharing with data protection laws.
  • Recognise the importance of equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice in conducting risk assessments, ensuring a culturally competent approach that respects the diversity of service users.
  • Familiarise yourself with crucial terms associated with risks, hazards, and control measures.
  • Acquire the necessary skills and processes to implement a comprehensive risk assessment and risk management process, incorporating trauma-informed principles.
  • Determine when and how to embrace appropriate and sustainable risks, with an emphasis on client empowerment and safety.
  • Practice carrying out a client-centred risk assessment that prioritises holistic well-being and is informed by cultural nuances and individual experiences.
  • Develop a personal action plan to integrate the insights gained into your professional practice, with a commitment to continuous learning and application of these approaches.

 

Please note:  This course focuses on risk assessment within professional interactions and client care. It does not cover environmental or building hazards specific to areas such as COSHH and electrical safety regulation.

The course is designed for both new and more experienced frontline staff, seeking to enhance their proficiency in conducting risk assessments with an approach that values clients’ strengths and backgrounds.
