Support planning is a core part of frontline work. New for 2026, this one-day course focuses on applying strengths-based practice and psychologically informed principles to the key elements of casework, including assessment, planning, review and recording.
The course will help staff build confidence and clarity in conducting purposeful assessment conversations, identifying priorities and goals, and translating information into clear, achievable plans that guide person-centred practice.
The course does not revisit strengths-based theory in depth. Instead, it focuses on how effective planning operates in day-to-day work, with particular attention to strengths-based communication that engages clients and promotes positive change.
This course will support you to:
- understand the purpose of assessment and planning in shaping clear, realistic next steps
- increase confidence in conducting assessment conversations in a strengths-based and psychologically informed way
- identify strengths, needs, risks and priorities through effective questioning and discussion
- translate assessment information into clear, realistic, person-centred goals
- write strengths-based goals and outcomes that are meaningful and measurable
- review and update plans in a way that reflects progress, learning and change
- reflect on current practice and identify improvements to take back to your role
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for support workers, keyworkers and managers working with adults or young people, where assessment, planning and review form part of the role.
Level:
Intermediate
This course assumes participants already have a basic understanding of strengths-based approaches and psychologically informed environments.
