Awareness of ADHD has increased significantly in recent years, leading to a rise in both formal diagnoses and self-identification, and highlighting how ADHD can impact individuals across the lifespan.
ADHD presents differently from person to person. Differences in attention, organisation, emotional regulation and impulse control can affect daily life, relationships, and engagement with services. Many people with ADHD also experience stigma, misunderstanding and negative assumptions about their behaviour or abilities.
Because many systems and services are designed around neurotypical expectations, people with ADHD may face additional barriers when accessing support, managing appointments, completing paperwork or navigating complex systems.
This new one-day course will explore the lived experience of ADHD, the challenges people with ADHD may experience when accessing services, and how those in supporting roles can help through greater understanding and practical strategies.
This course will support you to:
- Develop your understanding of ADHD and the lived experience of people with ADHD
- Recognise different presentations of ADHD and challenge common myths and misconceptions
- Explore the strengths associated with ADHD and how to support clients to build on them
- Understand how ADHD can affect executive functioning, emotional regulation, attention, and sensory experiences
- Recognise common barriers people with ADHD may face when accessing services
- Apply practical strategies to support clients with ADHD in professional settings
- Identify how small adjustments can make services more accessible and inclusive
- Support clients to access appropriate diagnosis, services and ongoing support
Who should attend?
This course will be most beneficial for staff who support clients or tenants who have, or may have, ADHD, as well as those who would like to develop their understanding of ADHD.
