Motivational Interviewing (MI) is recognised globally as one of the most effective approaches for supporting behaviour change.
Evidence shows that MI can significantly improve outcomes in areas such as substance use, physical health, mental health, and lifestyle changes. At its core, MI is client-centred and strengths-based, with a strong focus on collaboration and empathy. This approach helps professionals build trust, strengthen relationships, and empower clients to discover their own motivation for meaningful and lasting change.
Importantly, MI is widely viewed as one of the key tools in supporting Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE), making it especially valuable in services where behaviour change, engagement, and relational approaches are central.
This interactive two-day Motivational Interviewing course offers an inspiring and practical introduction to both the theory and application of MI. You’ll learn how to apply MI flexibly across different contexts, enhancing your professional practice and helping your clients move toward positive behavioural change.
Please note: participants are asked to commit to both course dates before booking.
This course will support you to:
- Understand the foundations and core principles of Motivational Interviewing
- Develop practical MI techniques that can be applied in your work
- Recognise when MI is most effective – and where it may have limitations
- Understand the importance of language within MI conversations
- Develop an action plan to integrate MI into your professional practice
- Identify next steps for your ongoing MI learning and development
