Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term, goal-orientated approach that helps clients identify solutions in the present and create more effective pathways to resolving future challenges.
By shifting the focus away from problems, SFBT emphasises strengths, resources, and achievable steps forward—empowering individuals to make meaningful and lasting change.
This interactive two-day course provides a practical introduction to the SFBT model and the essential skills needed to apply it effectively in your work.
Designed to complement and integrate with other approaches, such as Motivational Interviewing. SFBT is also widely recognised as a valuable tool for supporting Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE), making it especially relevant for services where relational approaches, engagement and behaviour change are key.
Delivered in a safe and supporting learning environment, the course combines group work, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, enabling participants to build confidence, practice new skills, and reflect on how to embed SFBT into their professional practice.
The course will support you to:
- Understand the core principles of the Solution Focused Brief Therapy model
- Recognise the key processes and functions of an SFBT conversation
- Develop the practical skills to facilitate SFBT interventions
- Explore the research evidence on the effectiveness and limitations of SFBT
- Understand how SFBT differentiates from other behaviour change approaches
- Identify opportunities to integrate SFBT into your professional practice
- Develop an SFBT toolkit and practise applying it both during the course and in your own work setting
